Dedication of SAR Compatriot Marker
The Marshes of Glynn Chapter, Sons of the American
Revolution dedicated a SAR Compatriot Marker to the memory of one of
our deceased members, Dr. Hurley D. Jones, on November 15,
2005, in the Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island.
Dr. Jones Patriot ancestor, John Everett (1743-
1820) enlisted in 1780 in the North Carolina Militia as a private
under Captain Abraham De Jarnett and was discharged six months later
at Salisbury, North Carolina. He later settled near Old Deloach's
Church in Southern Bulloch County where he applied for a pension for
his services.
Pictured are Marshes of Glynn members who
participated in the Ceremony: (from left) Brent Taylor, Greg
Hollis, Bill Ramsaur, Ed Ginn, and David Dukes, Georgia Society
SAR Regional Vice-President; and Jack McDonald. Also pictured
are two of the Jones family and members of the Brunswick Chapter and
Fort Frederica DAR Chapters, who assisted in conducting the
Ceremony.

Patriot Recognition Project
The Sons of the American Revolution is a "lineage" society. This
means that each member has traced his family tree back to one or more
ancestors who supported the cause of American Independence during the
years 1774-1783. The contribution of our Patriots Ancestors is
documented in our SAR Applications.
Our objective is to learn more about our Patriots Ancestors,
especially their experiences during the Revolutionary War. For a listing
of some of our Patriots Ancestors and a description of their experiences
see Honoring Our
Patriot Ancestors. If you want to know more or have information
to share about these Patriots, please contact us.
Over 220 years have passed since the Revolutionary War when our
Patriots were successful in their fight for independence from Great
Britain. The Sons of the American Revolution has an ongoing program to
locate and mark the final resting place of those who participated in our
struggle for freedom .
One of the key projects of the Marshes of Glynn Chapter is to
research the lives of Patriots who lived in the Coastal Georgia counties
of Glynn, Camden and McIntosh and to formally recognize their burial
sites with a SAR Marker that identifies them as Revolutionary War
Patriots.
Ross Arnold and Hank Burnham, in the book entitled, "Georgia
Revolutionary War Soldiers & Sailors, Patriots & Pioneers," list
seventeen (17) Patriots for Glynn County as well as thirty-nine (39)
Patriots for Camden and twenty (20) Patriots for McIntosh Counties. Our
research objective is to document the date of death and burial location,
Revolutionary War activities, and locate current descendants of these
Patriots.
On April 19, 2005, we conducted a Ceremony in the Christ Church,
Frederica Churchyard to dedicate SAR Markers for four Coastal Georgia
Revolutionary War Patriots: Cyrus Dart, Robert Grant, William Page and
Samuel Wright.
For a description of their experiences see
Honoring Coastal
Georgia Patriots.
